Photoshop Guide: How to Remove the Background from a Logo!

Photoshop Tips 2022

Give me a minute, and I'll teach you how to make your logos stand out in Photoshop by eliminating the white backdrop. Making a selection in Photoshop is rather simple in this case because of the Channels panel.

I'll demonstrate the process for you. The Channels panel is accessible through the Layers panel. Make sure it's active by going to Window and then selecting Channels if it isn't already. You can see the red, green, and blue channels, which together form this picture, from this vantage point.

How to Remove the Background from a Logo!

Your task is to examine each available channel panel and choose the one with the highest degree of foreground-to-background contrast. The blue channel is the one I'll be watching. To make a new channel, just grab it with your mouse and drop it into the corresponding slot. and we'll use this route to make a choice. All that's left to do now is go over to Image and click the Apply Image button.

Choose the blue replica under "Channel," and make sure "merged" is chosen. As the case may be with the copy you created, perhaps a different method will work for you. Blue is the colour for me. Click the Blending drop-down menu and choose Multiply. As soon as the screen goes dark, you may push the OK button.

If it doesn't become dark after applying the picture in Image, try doing it again. Sometimes it's necessary to use the levels (found under Picture > Adjust > Levels) to make an image darker. Here, though, a single invocation of Apply Image is all that is required. The next step is to create a layer mask from this.

When using a layer mask, white will show through and black will hide. Now that we know we need to invert the colour of this logo to white, we can do it by choosing the channel copy and pressing Ctrl I (Windows) or Command I (Mac OS X). After that, we can use this to pick from.

If you want to load the Copy channel as a selection, you may do so by holding down the Control (Windows) or Command (Mac) key and clicking on the thumbnail for the channel in blue. Change the colour mode back to RGB and open the Layers menu.

If you want to get rid of the white backdrop, you may do so by creating a layer mask by clicking on the Layer Mask button, but we aren't finished yet. I have something really significant to show you. Just below my logo, I'll add a new layer with a grey solid-color fill. What's more, there's a lot of fringe to be seen.

The picture is framed by these white borders. If you want to avoid this kind of fringe effect, I'll demonstrate an alternative technique. To make a channel a selection, just click on its thumbnail while holding down the Control (Windows) or Command (Mac OS) key.

Once you've done that, you may fill the Solid Color Fill layer with black. Moreover, take note that this lacks the aforementioned fringe. similar to the logo we used before. To make a copy of this layer, use Ctrl + J (Windows) or Command + J (Mac OS X). and settling on the orange from the first logo's palette.

black

Now that both layers are turned off, we can activate the Solid Color Fill by double-clicking on it. Find the orange, click OK, and it will appear. We'll need to conceal the rest of the text and use just orange for the chopsticks, of course. Choose a suitable selection tool from the available options.

My next step is to use the Polygonal Lasso tool to swiftly isolate the black areas of the logo. Once you've got the black section highlighted, you may mask it out of the orange layer.

Turn on these two layers, and then fill the layer mask of the orange layer with black. The Windows equivalent of Option + Delete is Alt + Backspace. To deselect, just hit Ctrl D (or Command D on a Mac). By the way, please click the "like" button if you have found this lesson helpful. It's great for the channel's standing in YouTube's rankings.

It would mean a lot to me. The picture is coming out beautifully, but we're not done yet. Even when I make the backdrop a lighter shade of grey, the black edge is still visible on the orange sections.

The reason for this is because we need to edit the layer mask for the black logo to eliminate those regions. Please allow me to demonstrate. To load the orange pixels of the selection, I'll hold Ctrl on Windows or Command on a Mac and click. After that, I'll enter the layer mask with the black background.

When using Windows, I can fill the screen with my foreground colour of black by pressing the Alt key and the Backspace key. And now I'll deselect; the results are much cleaner around the margins. Follow these steps to save an image of your logo without the backdrop. To accomplish this, pick Export from the File menu's Export submenu, and then select Export As via this opening.

Make sure you're using a PNG or GIF file type. If you use a JPEG, the image's transparent pixels will be turned white, putting you back at square one. So, for instance, go with PNG and activate the option labelled "Transparency."

As soon as you're satisfied, hit the blue export button, and your new translucent logo is ready for use.
