Why Doug DeMuro Loves His Audi RS2 Avant

You may get your dream 1990s performance vehicle from the King of Quirks, Doug DeMuro, who has a remarkable collection of automobiles.

Fans of Audis know that the RS division began with the Audi RS2 Avant, which was created in tandem with Porsche. Yet, the YouTuber failed to mention that it was the result of a collaboration between Porsche and Audi, was a fan favourite, and was noteworthy in automotive history. Why?

An Audi RS2 Avant from 1994 tells DeMuro's incredible story, which is motivational reading.

The 1994 Audi RS2 Avant owned by Doug DeMuro is a rolling storyboard. German engineering and '90s supercar design come together in Porsche's RS2 Avant. Performance was handled by Porsche, while Audi was responsible for the exterior design. The Audi "RS" brand and the world's fastest pickup of the '90s are the end consequence.

Audi avoided major auto markets like the United States and Canada by selling this monster just in those places. Customers clamoured for this car.

Like any self-respecting auto enthusiast, Doug wanted this vehicle. His wish was fulfilled by a Canadian auto fanatic who imported the vehicle from Japan. From Germany to Japan to Canada in 2009, this Audi RS2 Avant was driven across three continents. In 2020, the vehicle made its long-awaited debut in the United States.

There's no stopping DeMuro's RS2 Avant.

The narrative goes on. After launching Car & Bids, Doug was eager to purchase a leisurely vehicle. Ever since the year 2020, Doug has put 4100 miles on it. The YouTuber has a garage full of cars, but his trusty RS2 Avant has been there for him through thick and thin.

The arrival of this vehicle's son is the story's most exciting development. He convinced the woman to let him bring their newborn home from the hospital by driving her there in his Audi RS2 Avant. With his practicality, he packed the stroller and other necessities for the trip.

Doug has done substantial work on this car. Tires by Michelin Pilot Sport 4S were put on after he painted the black fenders Nogaro blue. He customised the leather seats by inserting blue Alcantara and adding Recaro emblems to the front. To make the inside more sporty, Doug incorporated carbon fibre accents to the wood.

As to why Doug DeMuro sold his Audi RS2 Avant, consider the following.

The only thing Doug DeMuro collects is enthusiasm. The RS2 Avant, despite Audi's bad record, is shown to function well and be reliable in a YouTube video.

Even though the Audi RS2 Avant is his dream car, Doug wants to upgrade. This YouTuber is certain that the RS2 Avant exceeded his expectations and made his life better. He claims he is not selling the car because of his new Porsche Carrera GT or because he is running out of garage space. We admire it that Doug is selling this vehicle instead of keeping it as a trophy as some other automotive enthusiasts may.

To that end, Porsche and Audi are going to change Formula One forever.

That '90s were rough. In order to compete with BMW and Mercedes-Benz, Audi needed a reliable vehicle. The same was true for Porsche; the company needed funds for research and development. Porsche used the production of high-performance cars like the Mercedes-Benz 500e until 1999, when it acquired AMG.

Audi consulted Porsche for advice. Together, these two people founded Audi's RS performance arm and designed the RS2 Avant.

Porsche-tuned Powerful inline-five cylinder, 2.2-liter, Audi

In 1994, Audi RS2 Avants were built at the historic Rössle facility in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart. Porsche upgraded the 2.2-liter Audi motor with a new turbocharger, intercooler, fuel injectors, camshaft, electronic control unit (ECU), and exhaust system designed for maximum performance. Each cylinder received fuel from four injectors, produced 310 hp, and 302.5 lb-ft of torque thanks to a KKK turbocharger.

With so much power going to all four wheels, the RS2 Avant was able to hit 162.8 mph and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds. The RS2 Avant reached 30 mph faster than the McLaren F1 by 1.6 seconds.

Audi's RS2 Avant from 1994 fetched £45,705 ($55,379) in Europe over the summer. The going rate for a used Audi RS2 Avant is now $65,000. Doug DeMuro is selling his RS2 Avant without any reservations. It's $92,000. Just what are you supposed to be doing here? Is it realistic to ask for $100,000?

Porsche's fingerprints can be seen everywhere over the Audi RS2 Avant, from badges to panels. Mirrors, brake callipers, bumpers, indicators, fog lights, gauges, and 17-inch alloy wheels are all OEM from Porsche. Within the engine compartment, you'll find an Audi/Porsche VIN plate and an engine head with the words "Powered by Porsche" stamped on it.
