Giant Revolt X has a suspension fork making the ride much more raucous
Giant has introduced a new dirt bike series called the Revolt X. These bikes include a short-travel 40mm suspension fork that is intended for more aggressive riding.
Giant's Revolt series of gravel bikes now includes the new Revolt X. As far as bikes go in 2022, our Bike of the Year was the Revolt Advanced Pro 0.
In January of this year, the Revolt X appeared online after being stolen from a number of retail sites. According to the announcement, Giant will have both a carbon fibre and aluminium Revolt X Advanced Pro gravel bike option.
Like the hardtail Revolt before it, this bike has a flip chip in the rear dropout so you may customise the bike's geometry to your liking.
The Advanced Pro 2 may be purchased for $4800 (£4499), €4600 (€5200), or AU$6199 (£2999), while the Revolt X 1 with an aluminium frame can be purchased for £2999.
The aluminium Revolt X will be released in May, after the April release of carbon variants. Only in the United Kingdom and Canada will you be able to purchase the aluminium Revolt X 1.
improved suspension geometry
We say the geometry is "optimal" because it works well with the suspension.
The dirt bike suspension forks used on Giant's Revolt X bikes are from RockShox and Fox.
These forks are 40mm in travel, and you'll find them on dirt bikes like the Berria Belador Allroad and the Niner MCR 9 RDO.
RockShox Rudy forks are used in the Advanced Pro 1 and 2 carbon models, while the Advanced Pro 1 is equipped with a Rudy Ultimate XPLR fork.
The suspension fork of the Revolt X has 40 millimetres of travel.
Giant
The Advanced Pro is equipped with a Fox 32 Float AX Performance Elite, which is an upgrade from the standard model.
Giant claims that the suspension geometry of the Revolt X has been improved.
A longer reach and lower bottom bracket drop distinguish the Revolt X Advanced Pro from the standard Revolt rigid frame. To have complete command, so says Giant.
In order to fit the length of the fork, the steerer tube has been reduced in length.
Giant
The shifts, though, are subtle. The Revolt X Advanced Pro's medium length features a new, improved reach of 389mm, an increase of 2mm. In comparison to the Revolt hardtail, the new bottom bracket drop is either 68 or 69 millimetres (mm), depending on the flip chip settings.
To compensate for the lengthening of the suspension fork, shorter head tubes have been used. In comparison to the Revolt hardtail's 150mm length, the head tube on a mid-size frame measures in at 115mm.
Both the chainstay and wheelbase lengths are unaltered.
Although though the statistics for the carbon and aluminium Revolt X bikes are identical, Giant has dropped the standover height on the aluminium model by 5mm.
A description of the frame
There is simply a 1x increase in power for the Giant Revolt X Advanced.
According to Giant Giant, the Revolt X frame's design achieves a sweet spot between rider comfort and rigidity.
In order to make carbon frames, Giant use its Advanced Composite. Assembled and moulded as one continuous piece, the front triangle is said to have a high stiffness-to-weight ratio according to the brand's patented manufacturing technology, Modified Monocoque Construction.
An incline may be seen on the upper tube. According to Giant, this results in a lighter, stiffer bike because to the smaller front and rear triangles. In addition, the company claims that its riders would have an easier time finding the perfect fit thanks to the sloping tube.
The handlebar of this bike is flared at an angle of 16 degrees.
Oversized upper and lower tubes. According to Giant, the downtube's square and rectangular form improves both bending and torsion rigidity.
The press-fit BB86 at the bottom bracket junction of the Revolt X carbon maintains the large aesthetic.
Standard bottom bracket thread diameter for the aluminium Revolt X is 68mm.
Giant's Overdrive headset system, with 1-1/8-inch and 1-1/4-inch bearings at the top and bottom of the fork, is used on the Revolt X.
There is vertical flex of 25 mm in the dropper post.
Two bottle cages can fit in the main triangle, and the downtube has three bumps for fine-tuning the cages' placement. Moreover, a bento box may be mounted in the locations provided beneath the down tube and on the top tube.
It's important to note that 1x drivetrains are incompatible with the Advanced Pro line. The aluminium Giant Revolt X, on the other hand, may be fitted with a front derailleur and used with a 2-speed gear set.
The frame allows for three different seatpost heights. A dropper post with either 75 or 100mm of height adjustability is included with the purchase of most bikes. If you want greater compliance, you may utilise Giant's own D-Fuse seatpost instead of a standard 30.9mm round post. If you want to utilise the latter, you'll require an adaptor.
The flip chip may be found in the back dropout of the device.
Giant
There is a flip chip in the Revolt X's rear dropout, much as on its hardtail sibling.
The two possible states offered by the flip chip. By reducing the length of the wheelbase and chainstays, the 'Short Position' is meant to make the bike more nimble. The 'Long Stance' mod extends the car's wheelbase for better directional steadiness.
Unscrew the dropout mounting nuts and turn the flip chip hardware until it is in the desired position.
Gravel bike tyres measuring up to 700x53mm in the 'Long Position,' or 700x42mm in the 'Short Position,' may be used with the Revolt X Advance.
